    A beer bottle cost nearly $4,500 and two years probation


    On March 16, 2018, Conemaugh Township police found a garage door panel kicked out, copper pipes cut out and taken and a beer bottle that did not belong to the owners of the property along Franklin Street.

    On March 17, 2018, an officer went to Carson Armstrong’s residence for an unrelated matter and found a beer bottle that was the same type as the one found at the scene of the break-in along Franklin Street. Beer cans with the same lot numbers were also found in the trash, according to court documents.

    On March 27, 2018, an officer found cut copper pipes in the 25-year-old’s basement that were the same size as the stolen ones and had matching cut marks.

    On April 5, 2018, he was charged with the crime.

    This week, Armstrong was placed in supervised probation for two years at his sentencing for criminal mischief and defiant trespass before President Judge D. Gregory Geary.

    He was ordered to pay the costs of prosecution and supervision, $200 in fines and $4,456 in restitution. He pleaded guilty July 15.

    Also sentenced in Somerset County Court of Common Pleas this week was a 66-year-old man who invited “a family friend” on Sept. 17, 2019, to come and help him clean his barn along Govier Lane, only to expose himself to her through a hole in a barn wall, according to court documents.

    Walter Null Jr., Johnstown, was placed in supervised probation for one year and ordered to pay the costs of prosecution and supervision, a $300 fine and to submit to DNA testing. He…
